DAY 184 (The Gangrape case : Delhi..!)
I have been trying to express myself on this animosity since Sunday night itself but could not find words for it. Words still are falling short but I have to say something just to be a part of it in action.
A talented, young, strong girl who might have been amongst the star youths of India someday was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi. Doctors say that they have never seen such brutality in sexual assault ever before. And the country is grieving. Law is struggling. The accused are still living...breathing.
How do you expect someone to response on this?
On top of it, when I read about the girl's will power to fight back all the pain and trauma that she is going through and appealing to live...makes me mum.
This is one of the cases which we have come to know. And thats maybe because the accused are not from a good financial background to get the stories hidden inside cover.
So many women empowerment talks going all around the country....so many discussions and praises on the developing nation in terms of gender equality and then..suddenly we are kicked behind the start line!
We call our nation as Bharat "maata"...we pray so many goddesses....and now..are we trying to create a superlative of hypocrisy here?
Since this incident, I am watching everyday the protests, the fire that is there in the whole country. Infact many such rape cases which, a few days ago, were coming in a small corner column are now on front page elaborating the cases, the victims and the story beyond.
My questions apart from the ones that people are already asking from government is-
Why do we need to wait for such a brutal incident to happen to wake ourselves up?
Why do we have to scream and protest and fight back for every right that morally we should already have?
Why is it that people wake up only when it is too dangerous to still be sleeping?
It is not about a city, or a state...it is something national..!! And thats a big word we word we are talking about here!
Government, police, laws ..they all would go as system goes. Protesting would bring changes probably but it is difficult to say when and how?
Meanwhile...can't we be a more responsible and "regular" citizen?
Let us not sit back, wait and doze off for another such devilish act to happen and then raise our voices. And let us not wait for those small page 5 corner stories to zoom in and come to front page.
We are as much responsible for our country and its condition as is the government.
Let us be the system in order to change the system.
And let us pray for the victim...
May god give her all the strength to fight back !
